Achyranthes aspera is a species of plant in the family Amaranthaceae. It is distributed throughout the tropical world. It can be found in many places growing as an introduced species and a common weed. It is an invasive species in some areas, including many Pacific Islands environments.
aspera possesses a significant antibacterial activity against S. mutans, which is the causative organism playing a major role in the pathogenesis of dental caries. In the present study, chlorhexidine gluconate which is considered a gold standard for antibacterial agents against oral pathogens was taken as control.
